Orthodontics is the study and treatment of improper bites. These improper bites derive from disproportionate jaw structure or teeth deformities. At Ladera Ranch, our Orthodontists take a detail look at the structure of your jaw, bone structure, teeth, and the type of bite you have. The type of bites a person may have are classified in three different classes: Class I, Class II, and Class III. Class I is the situation in which the upper teeth are slightly over the bottom teeth. When the upper teeth are more than slightly over the bottom teeth, this is classified as Class II. Class III is an underbite; this type of bite is much more noticeable and creates difficulty in eating.
Despite the type of bite you may have, all of us that do not have the straightest teeth or perfect smile still share the same experiences from being self-conscious or any other difficulties that is associated with misaligned teeth and jaw. These difficulties and experiences ranges from feeling uncomfortable in our own skin to feeling physically uncomfortable. When I was younger, I had the hardest time smiling. My brother always had the better smile. In pictures, I did not feel right showing all my teeth or none of my teeth. Eventually, I adjusted and only allowed my overbite to be shown in pictures. As written earlier, one of difficulties involves “feeling physically uncomfortable.” I suffer from this too. My tongue is too big for the limited space my jaw allows. Whenever I would speak, sometimes I would stutter or feel as if my tongue is going too fast and feels so uncomfortable that it wants to escape form my mouth. I have always wanted braces, but my family could not afford them.
A few years afterwards I dropped the idea of braces out of my head. Somehow, I ended up at 7 Day Dental’s office receiving my free consultation. Because of 7 Day Dental I learned the future difficulties that will be waiting for me in the future if I did not get braces; and because of 7 Day Dental I will be able to escape from this flaw of mine and gain the smile I want.
